Frequently Asked Questions
What are the timings for a school day?
Classroom doors open at 8:30 am.
Registers close at 8:40 am, and after that time, you will need to enter and register via Reception.
The end of the school day is 3:10 pm for Early Years, Year 1, and Year 2.
The end of the school day for Years 3-6 is 3:15 pm.
What should I do if my child is unable to attend school?
You must advise the school if your child will be absent for any reason. If the school is not notified of any absence, it will be recorded as unauthorised.
If your child is unwell, please call the school office every day that they are absent on 01908 610431.
If your child has an appointment, we ask that, where possible, medical, dental, and optician appointments are outside of school time. If you have to attend any of these appointments during the school day, we request that you show the office a copy of the appointment card/ email/ text, or letter as soon as you have made the appointment - this means that the absence will be marked correctly and not as unauthorised.
How long after an illness can my child return to school?
Once they are feeling better. In the case of vomiting and diarrhoea, your child should not have had these symptoms for at least 48 hours before they return to school. For specific illnesses, please refer to the NHS guidelines.
What do I do if my child needs prescribed medication?
Parents can arrange to come into school to administer medication to their child if necessary. Only medicines prescribed by a doctor and clearly labeled for four times a day will be administered by the school. Please bring the medication to the school office and complete the appropriate paperwork. Under no circumstances should children bring medicine in their bags to school; it must be registered with the office staff.
Medicine that needs to be taken three times a day should be given to your child before and after school and at bedtime.
For children with asthma, severe allergies, etc., please speak to the school office for advice and guidance, as a Care Plan may be needed.
Can we go on holiday during term time?
No, the school uses a Fixed Penalty Notice for children who have 10 unauthorised sessions in 10 school weeks; the time does not need to be consecutive, as was the previous case. Absences during term time have a significant impact on pupil progress, development, and social skills. If you submit a Leave of Absence form, this does NOT mean the absence is authorised.
The school attendance target is 95%, when this drops to 90%, you will be contacted by the school, and your attendance will be monitored, and steps will be introduced to improve, and you may be subject to a penalty notice.
